    When it comes to a new baby, there are a gazillion things to do. Or so it seems. There are equally large amounts of things to buy especially if this will be your first baby. It is easy to get lost in the maze of baby products and clothing in the stores. So before you go out and get overwhelmed check out these baby essentials. You will find everything here to cover all the baby’s needs from diapering, eating and sleeping. These are or should be the backbone of your baby purchasing checklist, the must-have products that will have you ready for your baby without breaking the bank. So let’s start with clothing.

    Wardrobe Essentials for Baby

    Tiny baby clothes can be so adorable and it is super easy to get carried away in the stores. You want to pick practical items that will be comfortable for your baby as well as will be easy for you. Remember that babies grow fast so you don’t want to end up with too much of one thing. On average you can start baby with;

    • 6 onesies 
    • 6 kimono-style shirts
    • 6 footsies/pants
    • 6 one-piece pajamas
    • 2 rompers/dress outfits
    • 2 jackets or sweaters
    • 5 socks or booties especially if you get pants instead of footsies
    • 2 newborn hats
    • No scratch mittens
    • Wearable blankets if you are in winter
    • Fleece suit /bunting bag for winter
    • Lightweight stroller blanket

    Nursery Essentials for Baby

    You want your baby’s room to be adorable but you want to make sure you get the necessary stuff before you start going all goo goo gah gah over décor. Infant care is easier and safer when you have the right furniture in your nursery. Here’s what you need;

    • A flat firm mattress for the crib

    Your new baby will need to be fed what feels like right around the clock. Whether breast or bottle feeding you will need a couple of things for mealtime.

    Gear Essentials for Baby

    • Infant car seat or a convertible one that will grow with your baby

    • Playmat 

    This list represents all the things you need to start when your baby comes. There may be some items that are not necessary and you can decide this based on your situation. If your budget allows you can purchase more of the items here than the suggested amount. Remember if you are having a shower that you will get a lot of clothes and diapers. So you may want to wait on your shower gifts before you start your shopping. In such a case you could simply purchase a small layette in case of emergency so you have something ready if the baby comes early.
